Set Sail received critical acclaim with The Associated Press stating, “The North Mississippi Allstars have mastered their craft and are pinning the counter on Set Sail. The 10 tracks by the brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson and their laid-back collective are loose yet tight, playful and cheerful, high-flying yet grounded in groove.” Mojo Magazine said, “…North Mississippi Allstars capture lightning in a bottle groove that sets all the best Southern Soul apart,” and Uncut Magazine awarded Set Sail 8 out of 10 stars. Holler exclaimed, “Like the timely arrival of superheroes. Just when you needed them most, North Mississippi Allstars return with a lively injection of positivity and uplifting roots funk to save us all,” while No Depression said, “Set Sail is their most emotional and funky creation yet. nowadays… “

Today, the American songwriter has created To run away in its entirety alongside a feature film starring Luther Dickinson. Listen to the album in its entirety, one day before its release, HERE.

After 25 years, twelve albums, four Grammy nominations and sold-out shows everywhere, North Mississippi Allstars is once again opening up its world on To run away, welcoming another family into the fold. As the sons of legendary producer and musician Jim Dickinson, Luther and Cody Dickinson founded the band in 1996 as a loose collective of like-minded second-generation musicians who shared a local repertoire and regional style. Over the years, the line-up changed design, and with Set Sail they harnessed the talents of Jesse Williams on bass and Lamar Williams, Jr., the son of Allman Brothers bassist Lamar Williams, Sr, on vocals. . During the Allman Betts Band Family Revival, the Dickinsons first bonded with Lamar, quickly becoming friends and collaborators, paving the way for Set Sail.

“The chemistry we have with this lineup is powerful,” observes Luther. “We are all second-generation musicians and share a telepathic, relaxed ease in creating and performing. I believe that music is a form of communion with our loved ones and evoking this atmosphere with members of musical families can be a source of inspiration. Lamar and I share the same ideas. I’ve never had the pleasure of working with a singing partner like Lamar. It has a truly blue quality to its musicality that will draw you in and break your heart. At the same time, Jesse grew up playing music with his brothers and father, just like us. He plays like a brother. I am attracted to musical families, regardless of style. Playing with second or third generation players allows us an easy unspoken musical dialogue. It’s not a big deal; that’s just what we do. We never had to understand what that means and what it takes to be a musician. We all know intrinsically. He continues: “Each generation must reinvent itself and get rid of the skin of the elders. At To run awaywe feel like we’ve “broken the code” once again, and we know what we want and how to get it.

To run away continues the band’s tradition of creating roots music that displays remarkable variety. The disc sizzles with hard but discreet groove, cultivated folk music. Luther’s wide-ranging guitar style includes jazz riffs, psychedelic sounds, and soulful slides. Drummer and multi-instrumentalist Cody draws inspiration from roots music, rock, jazz, rap and other styles to create beats that propel the band’s sounds and drive them forward. Their two aesthetics combine to create the band’s unique style, “Primitive Modernism”, blending the new with the old. Luther notes, “We leaned into our other biggest influences: folk, soul, and psychedelic rock, but everything we play sounds like it’s north of the Mississippi.”
