Baton Rouge Area SCORE will be hosting a free webinar on starting a business from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on December 7.

The event covers topics such as the myths and realities of entrepreneurship, the components of business ownership, critical success factors, legal issues and financing.

LSU Online, a springboard for training designers

LSU Online & Continuing Education and Springboard, an online platform that prepares students for in-demand careers through comprehensive mentor-led programs, offers the LSU UI / UX, or User Interface and User Experience, Design Bootcamp.

The partnership aims to prepare students for high demand careers in the UI / UX field through a mix of courses, real-world industry design projects and mentor-led learning, professional and job support.

Classes will be open to the public and prospective students do not need to be enrolled at LSU or have previous experience to qualify.

BR General opens residential center for substance use disorders

Baton Rouge General has opened Baton Rouge Recovery Health, a residential center to provide inpatient treatment to men with substance use disorders.

Located at 933 North Foster Dr., the 16 bed residential treatment center has been recently renovated. It offers a full 28-day treatment in a safe, comfortable and family-friendly environment.

Baton Rouge Recovery Health is a joint venture with Lifeline Behavioral Health Systems.

Passco buys two apartments in Baton Rouge

Passco Companies, a private California-based commercial real estate company, has acquired two apartment complexes in the Baton Rouge metro for a combined price of around $ 130 million.

Passco acquired 276 Tapestry Long Farm units from the property developer, Arlington Properties, based in Birmingham, Alabama. The company also acquired the 276 Sweetwater Apartment Homes in Addis from the developer of this property, Stoa Group, based in Hammond.

Arlington Properties will manage both assets.

Saint-Bernard Parish certified as a Louisiana Development Ready Community

Louisiana Economic Development has recognized St. Bernard Parish as the newest development-ready community in Louisiana.

The parish becomes the 48th participant in the community development program, now in its 13th year.

The Louisiana Development Ready Communities program helps participants prepare and become more competitive for new investments and jobs. The program guides the selected communities in the creation and implementation of a strategic plan. By following the plan for several years, participants build on their strengths and overcome their unique challenges to become more competitive and attract growth.

Members of the Fondation pour le développement économique de Saint-Bernard, the Saint-Bernard parish government and other key stakeholders were all part of the team that helped achieve the LDRC designation. Through the distribution of community surveys, town halls, and multiple committee meetings, the team identified strengths and opportunities for further growth, all aimed at positioning the parish for increased economic momentum.

The League’s AG Center will close its 20th anniversary celebration on Thursday

The Southern University Agricultural and Research Center will host a virtual program to close its 20th anniversary celebration on Thursday at 10 a.m.

This virtual celebration will include music, special guest appearances and videos recapping the events that took place and the work being done by staff at the agricultural center during the pandemic.
