Google’s Area 120 incubator has launched a new website building and e-commerce platform called Qaya, which is now available in beta in the United States.
According to a new blog post, Qaya Co-Founder and CEO Nathaniel Naddaff-Hafrey came up with the idea while working from home during the pandemic after spending time with creators who said it was difficult and long to build an online business around their content.
This has led to the creation of a new product called Qaya which provides web storefronts for creators who want to sell products and services directly to their audience.
The company has a small, agile team who believe that creators are the next generation of entrepreneurs. As CEOs of their own business, they need the same business tools as any successful founder.
Build your designer businesses
Qaya began live testing its new service in early 2021 and since then the company has learned a lot from the creators on its platform, their fans, and other creator economy projects.
Designers on Qaya can sell everything from workout guides and photo filters to productivity patterns, knitting patterns and more. The company currently supports both paid and free products with new features like tips, memberships, and other types of monetization to come.
By registering with Qaya, creators can use the service as a hub for all of their web business activities. Many log into their storefronts from their bio on social media and feature digital products that they download or products and services hosted on other sites. The company provides all of its users with a custom domain yourname.channel or qaya.store/your-name with built-in payment functionality.
At the same time, Qaya has also developed customer management and analytics tools that creators can use to connect with their fans and understand sales and content performance. The company has also started integrating with other Google products, including YouTube’s Merch Shelf, and eligible YouTube creators can now promote Qaya’s products directly under their YouTube channel videos.
Qaya is currently in beta in the United States, although the company hopes to expand to other countries soon.
